Position Summary:

The Chief of Staff – Technical Operations will be a key member of CTO’s leadership team and will collaborate with Segment and Function leaders acting as a strategist and advisor, supporting decision makers through involvement with operations, development, recruiting, and special ad hoc projects. The ideal candidate will act as an extension of the CTO to balance priorities, communicate effectively, and maximize the effectiveness of the leadership team.

The Chief of Staff – Technical Operations will collaborate effectively across the organization to capture and aggregate key initiatives and programs for Executive Leadership Operations Review and Board presentations.

Essential Job Functions:

• Drive strategic initiatives and cross functional projects across the technology organization
• Lead communication and alignment across different Segments, Functions and geographies as related to and technology operations and delivery
• Manage projects related to building teams in developing geographies
• Proactively partner with Finance to support budgeting activities and departmental reporting
• Act as sounding board for leadership team on business technology strategy and offer business perspectives on key strategic decisions
• Serve as a representative of the CTO in technical and non-technical forums as needed
• Stay apprised of emerging tech trends and their potential impact on Bottomline Technologies.
• Keen organizational awareness with a desire for continuous experimentation and improvement
• Drive strategic conversations, including 3rd party contractor engagement, prioritization of tech foundations, geo-distributed work. 
• Partner with finance on Contractor headcount management and forecasting.
• Drive clear and effective communication within the leadership team as well as the broader team as needed for the Office of the CTO.
• Work with CTO leadership counterparts as needed for key business events, planning, business reviews, and other strategic business planning activities.
• Collaborate on content development and preparation for key forums
• Sustain “Rhythm of the Business” for the extended leadership team, including cross-functional partners, continually driving alignment to and execution of the core Engineering priorities.

• Expert in SaaS delivery methodologies and Cloud fundamentals
• Ability to maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
• Ability to innovate and scale ideas/processes to large teams. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong executive presentation
• Outstanding collaboration and influencing skills across all organizational levels
• Experience in business planning, strategy, and operations
• Trustworthy with high integrity, and the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
• Highly motivated at growing personal skills and encouraging growth in the team around them

Education and Experience:

• 10+ years as an experienced software developer or architect with a BS/BA or equivalent required.
• 10+ years of project management or similar experience in the tech industry
• Budgeting and P&L experience and experience assessing risk with respect to business decisions
• Deep familiarity with highly technical product development teams and processes across software, product, user experience, and data science, and an understanding of the applicability of different skills and methodologies.
• Demonstrated capability in verbal and written communications skills
