Summary
Serves as the Technical and Administrative Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator Supervisor at the Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant (NIWTP), Nogales Field Office (NFO), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division, Operations Department of the United States Section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC). Operates and controls the NIWTP processes to ensure proper and safe operations in accordance with the State of Arizona and Federal regulatory requirements.

Conditions of Employment

- You may be exposed to viruses and bacteria. Upon your request, you may receive preventative vaccinations against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid Fever, Tuberculosis, and Tetanus at the agency expense.
- You must be able to lift up to 44 pounds unassisted and you must be able to lift over 45 pounds assisted.
- You must be able to sustain periods of substantial walking, bending, stooping, standing, crouching, stretching and reaching which will be evaluated during the pre-employment medical examination.
- You will be exposed to hazardous material waste and must wear protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
- You will be subject to work in confined spaces and strenuous work, and work in adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
- You may be required to use a face-fitted respirator.
- You will be required to complete an Immunization Declaration Form.
- You may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.
- You must possess and maintain, either upon appointment or within 18 months of appointment, an Arizona Class 4 (or higher) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification as per Arizona Administrative Code Section R18-5-114.4.c.
- You must possess and maintain, upon appointment, an Arizona Class 3 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification as per Arizona Administrative Code Section R18-5-114.4.c.
- You must possess and maintain a valid U. S. Motor Vehicle Driver License, without impeding restrictions, and issued by a U. S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
- You may be subject to random or special group drug testing.
- You may be required to work overtime.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification Requirement - To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor (Open Until Filled)without more than normal supervision.
Examples of such experience include:establishing deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules; explaining work requirements, methods, and procedures; monitoring an operational budget; properly training employees on adherence to hazardous material/waste management; developing employee performance standards; scheduling and approving employee leave requests; resolving informal or formal employee complaints; performing tests to assess characteristics for solids, conductivity, ultraviolet transmissivity, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total residual chlorine, organic and ammonia nitrogen, alkalinity, hardness, toxic substances such as heavy metals, and fecal coliform; preparing samples for transport to outside laboratories; increasing or decreasing chemical agents; composing daily reports designed to meet federal and state requirements; operates a computer to input data; operating wastewater equipment such as pumps, gate valves, and outlets; using equipment such as bar racks, fine screens, grit settling basins, and separators; reading and monitoring meters and gauges to maintain efficient wastewater treatment; performing inspections; reviewing laboratory analysis; using basic tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, drills, wire-cutters, strippers, and soldering irons; interpreting oral and written communication and instruction; performing simple corrective action to plant processes to manually or remotely regulate the flow of wastewater; operating a variety of motor vehicles such as a sedan or pickup truck; and operating a forklift.

Education
