Job Description

General Summary
The Water Jet Operator/Programmer is responsible for safely operating the water jet and laser cutting machines and supporting the production team. This position is also responsible for the daily setup and operation of equipment to include file management, daily area upkeep, machine maintenance work, troubleshooting and material staging.

Job Functions

  • Program, modify, and optimize artwork in Adobe Illustrator, Omax Layout and Omax Make.
  • Operate the water jet, laser cutting machines and other machinery used in the production
  • Manipulate machine functions and collaborate to ensure the intention of the requesting artist/designer is being met.
  • Maintain production goals and ensure production schedule follow through in conjunction with supervisor.
  • Load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of cutting equipment, ventilation systems and work area in accordance with company standards and manufacturer’s machine recommendations.
  • Perform some machine alignment procedures to keep equipment at peak operating performance.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision of all parts produced.
  • Reach out proactively to other departments to resolve priority conflicts that may arise, or to communicate issues that might delay the delivery of requests.
  • Follow all safety rules and quality standards as outlined by company guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience with laser or water jet cutter or CNC routers, preferred.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, required.
  • Solid background working with sheet materials (plastics, woods, metals, etc.).
  • Knowledge of tooling and tool maintenance.
  • Proficient with precision tolerances, measurements and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works under typical office conditions and is exposed to variable indoor temperatures. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate.
