Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Physical Support Branch, Plant Section, Metals Unit. You will perform a full range of welding duties. Works on equipment as represented by dredges, towboats, barges, tractors, draglines, derrick boats, buoys, cranes, etc.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening and random drug and alcohol test screenings thereafter.
- You must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The incumbent for this position must obtain and/or maintain within 12 months of being hired: 1) forklift operator's license, 2) scissor lift operator's license, 3) aerial boom lift operator's license, AND 4) overhead crane operator's license.
- Certification requirement at the WG-08 grade must be met prior to and for continued employment by successfully passing pre-employment weld testing to obtain 3G/4G FCAW (unlimited thickness) weld certification and maintain certification thereafter.
Qualifications
Schedule: During Daylight Savings Months, typically March through October, this position works four 10-hour days each week beginning on Mondays. During the rest of the year, the work week consists of five 8-hour days beginning on Mondays.

CHRA APPROVED Selective Placement Factors:
-- WG-10 grade level must successfully pass pre-employment weld testing to obtain SMAW 6G (6010 root 7018 fill and cap) weld certification and maintain certification thereafter.
-- WG-08 and WG-10 grade level must successfully pass pre-employment weld testing to obtain 3G/4G FCAW (unlimited thickness) weld certification and maintain certification thereafter.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-10: Ability to do the work of a Welder without more than normal supervision. Assisting in welding processes, planning, using templates, jigs, and blueprints. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

- PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing and crawling. Work may be performed in an awkward or cramped position. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, or carries parts or equipment that weighs up to 50pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items weighing more.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside subject to injury from lifting, operating machines and using miscellaneous tools. Is exposed to abnormal noise; inclement weather; burns from electric arc, gas torches and molten metal; changing temperatures; and fumes. Danger to the eyes is present from metal chips, electric arc, rust and dust. Is also subject to danger of explosive gases.

- Various protective devices such as safety shoes and glasses, gloves, and hard hats must be used.
- Incumbent may be subject to assignment on other phases of productive work, which may include travel from his permanent duty station, depending on (1) needs of the organization; (2) individual ability; (3) requirements for utilization of personnel to a desirable degree; and (4) the need for new and additional experience as required by operations. Is also subject to assignment where needed during emergencies
