- You will be a Mission Essential employee. This requires you to work during an emergency to ensure continuation of essential functions. You may be required to work at the designated duty location, a telework site, or an alternate location/facility.
- Applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain a government issued material handling equipment (MHE) operatorβs license.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
- Ability to do the work of a Woodworker without more than normal supervision (SOE): I perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as plan, construct, and repair standardized shipping and storage containers; measure, develop and lay out changes to existing container plans; make standard joints and grooves; determine materials and methods required for standard container construction; determine wood and wood composite material strengths and nail holding and splitting tendencies; follow work orders, item specifications, illustrations, and blueprints.
Physical Effort:
Wood workers at all levels use power and manual tools and devices that typically involve continuous physical effort and e1'.'iended periods of standing, bending, and stooping while building or repairing containers and material shipping devices.
They lift and .carry items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted and frequently lift and move heavier items with the assistance of other workers or with lifting devices such as floor hoists or cranes.
The incumbent fully meets these requirements as there is a requirement to work while standing or bending and for lifting or carrying up to 45 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Most work is performed indoors but occasionally work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions.
Incumbent is exposed to noise from hammering, power saws, pneumatic nailers and planers.
Also, there is potential for minor cuts, splinters, bruises, foot injury caused by falling objects, fumes and burns caused by preservation materials.
Exposed to possible serious injury when working with power saws.
The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.
These agents may include, but not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc.
To ensure employee safety and health, the shipyard maintains personal protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations.
These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment and medical surveillance programs.
As part of the surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take a medical examination to assess his/her qualification for duty involving work within these agents.

Drug-Free Workplace: The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has established a Drug-Free Federal Workplace Policy.
