The Role
We are looking to hire a Design Project Manager who is a thinker and a doer ..., you will manage critical projects working in a highly collaborative environment with executive management, environmentalists, designers, architects, engineers, contractors, technologists, real estate brokers, facilities managers, quantity surveyors. An ideal candidate has a strong background coordinating the work of globally distributed teams on complex projects with a focus on quality assurance. Proven experience driving multiple and challenging projects in a fast-paced environment is critical. This position is based in Chicago, Morningstar's home in the heart of the city. This intimacy with the urban environment has become an integral part of our corporate culture.
Responsibilities:
At Morningstar, the workplace is where we come together, and our brand takes on a tangible expression. The Senior Manager of Workplace Design will -
  • Manage execution of multiple workplace design projects in different stages from discovery, through design and construction
  • Your serotonin levels are up doing this across diverse time zones, currencies, cultural differences, in an on-going basis
  • Must be comfortable traveling internationally depending on evolving needs toward projects' delivery. In rough average this may translate to a quarterly trip
  • Become well versed in workplace design taxonomy and evolution, working with and connecting diverse constituencies
  • Organize solid project teams, driving them to deliver, with innate dexterity for financial controls, project scheduling, statutory compliance, risk management
  • Deliver high quality projects based on Morningstar's ethos and business goals, under the leadership of the Global Director of Workplace Design, the Chief Design Officer, according to Morningstar's Workplace Design Program
  • Communicate regular project status updates across all stakeholder groups. Cultivate a culture of team collaboration along with open and honest communication
  • Deliver projects with the highest standard in innovative sustainability, accessibility and overall experience design. Partnering to meet or exceed Morningstar's commitment to be Carbon Neutral by 2050 (50% by 2030). Executing with a circular economy mindset delivering a better environment than we found it. Delivering a workspace to suit everyone, in a distributed work environment

Qualifications:
  • I've been developing environments around the world which are smart and inspiring
  • My top professional concern is delivering memorable, uplifting, safe, and valuable environments
  • My bachelor's degree (or higher) is relevant to architectural design management
  • I'm an independent thinker, simplifying complexity, to build a brighter future
  • I'm driven to deliver projects with the highest quality - analytical skills are fundamental to thrive in a company of thinkers, researchers and analysts
  • I leverage teamwork in order to exceed expectations on all projects
  • Communication is my main tool to deliver successful projects
  • I'm effective at coaching teams and providing feedback to stakeholders/executives
  • My professional experience is relevant to architectural design management, 8+ years
  • I dominate basic software tools such as MS Office suite, video conferencing
  • I'm familiar with technical software tools such as AutoCAD, project management tools like Asana
  • I hold (or in the middle of securing) an ESG certification from a reputable global accreditation institution, such as ILFI, fitwel, IWBI, BRE, NABERS, USGBC
  • I'm looking forward to working mostly from the Chicago HQ workplace
