Collis Aerospace Space Systems is looking for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to assist in leading a team of software engineers in the support of development programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, the ideal candidate is a highly-engaged, hands-on software engineering leader who has a passion for developing talent and solving challenging problems. We're looking for someone who can collaborate with Hardware Designers and Systems Engineers to develop and integrate robust and reliable closed loop embedded control systems for Safety Critical Space Applications.

Responsibilities:

• Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations.
• Ensure adherence to approved development plans, department software policies, design reviews, and contractual specifications.
• Analyze customer and system requirements, and instantiate embedded software solutions to meet.
• Author software documentation and conduct design reviews in accordance with department policy and customer requirements.
• Perform software development testing and hardware integration utilizing a combination of analysis and laboratory test equipment.
• Provide ongoing maintenance and enhancements to existing systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware designers, systems engineering, reliability, and customers to achieve elegant and reliable solutions.
• Provide recommendations and implement continuous improvements.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
• Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR
• In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
• Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor's degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

• Clear, concise communication style and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy required.
• Disciplined scope and risk management practices, including adherence to department policy and customer contract deliverables.
• Experience with Agile Software Development Methods.
• Experience with GUI development
• Experience with Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience with Java, C#, Matlab, XML, and developing code using Atmel Studio or similar IDE.
• Experience developing high-reliability closed loop control systems and serial communication interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with NASA programs or similar (development through flight support) desired.
• Familiarity with RTCA/DO-178, JPR7150.2, and CMMI-DEV desired.
• Familiarity with MBSE a plus.
