To maintain the position, a minimum of two 8-hour shifts per pay period must be completed. The grade determination is based on the level of education, with GS-3 requiring 1 year of post-high school study, GS-4 requiring 2 years or an associate's degree, and GS-5 requiring the final semester of the junior year.
