The grade determination is based on the level of education, with GS-3 requiring 1 year of post-high school study, GS-4 requiring 2 years or an associate's degree, and GS-5 requiring the final semester of the junior year. Preferred criteria include a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Physical requirements include heavy lifting, straight pulling and pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing and kneeling, and rapid mental and muscular coordination. SNTs will not receive additional premium pay for working on legal holidays, Sundays, or nights, but may be granted equivalent time off for service in excess of 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. A minimum of two 8-hour shifts per pay period must be completed to maintain the position. As trainees, SNTs may not be assigned to compressed work schedules. This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer competitive status. VHA health care personnel are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
