Summary About the Position: This position is located in Honolulu, HI, at Tripler Army Medical Center in the department of Behavioral Health. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Duties Provide individual and group therapy, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy. Assess acute mental health conditions in beneficiaries who present with such issues. Screen and interview patients, perform bio-psychological social evaluations using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling. Evaluate overall effectiveness of therapeutic efforts, and institute changes to increase effectiveness of therapeutic efforts. Provide evidence-based psychological assessments focusing on the interplay between physical health and mental well-being (e.g., chronic pain, oncology, sleep disorders, and cardiovascular health). Assist patients with lifestyle modifications, including smoking cessation, weight management, and adherence to complex medical regimens. Act as a primary consultant for medical providers to optimize patient outcomes through integrated treatment plans. Participate in multidisciplinary "rounds" and treatment planning for patients with complex comorbid medical and behavioral health presentations. Maintain timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record ensuring compliance with DHA, regulatory, and billing standards. Contribute to the design and implementation of Behavioral Medicine protocols to improve clinic-wide efficiency and patient satisfaction. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. One year trial/probationary period may be required. This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). A pre-placement medical examination is required. Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Clinical Psychologist: Degree: Successful completion of a Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Completion of an APA-accredited professional psychologist internship preferred. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements below: Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: For an adult treatment population, performing behavioral health assessments and/or psychological testing, developing behavioral health treatment plans and/or recommendations, and providing treatment to behavioral health patients. The incumbent will present cases and provide training on evidence based methods to peers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
