This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove. Learn more about this agency Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment physical examination and annually thereafter. This position has a requirement to lift up to 20-40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time. The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an a(n) Electronics Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: 1) conduct inspections of electronic equipment; 2) use test equipment to diagnose malfunctions; 3) troubleshoot to determine cause of malfunction; and 4) complete repairs of electronic equipment using hand and power tools. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Grade 10 electronics mechanics frequently lift and carry, unassisted, items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. WORKING CONDITIONS: Grade 10 electronics mechanics typically work in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high and restricted places, under conditions of heat and cold and outside in inclement weather. They are exposed to the possibility of electric shock; burn from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
