Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Power Plant Electrician A, WB-2810-00 position with US Army Corp of Engineers, Little Rock District, Operations Division Table Rock Project Office, located in Branson, Missouri. This position is exclusively represented by Local IBEW 2219. Duties Perform a full range of work to include repair, testing, service, maintenance and overhaul of any or all types of powerhouse and switchyard electrical equipment. Make periodic inspections of equipment. Disassemble and examine parts for serviceability. Reassemble and make proper adjustments to equipment. Test various equipment: voltmeters, ohmmeters, current meters, oscilloscopes, mega-ohmmeters, frequency counters, and control loop calibrators. Requirements Conditions of employment Pre-employment and random drug testing is required. Pre-employment and annual physical examinations are required. Responds to the plant on emergency callouts at night and on weekends/holidays to perform troubleshooting of various alarms detected by operators at a remotely located control center in accordance with negotiated collective bargaining agreement. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT ELECTRICIAN A ~ without more than normal supervision to include testing, preventative maintenance, service, repair and overhaul on electrical equipment at a powerhouse or switchyard - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment the incumbent will lift and carry heave objects 45 pounds and over, climb and reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods of time and performs repeated bending. The incumbent must be able to utilize the power plant communications system, and to do so hearing and speech is necessary. In order that color codes be recognized the incumbent must have correctable vision and the ability to distinguish basic shades of colors. Operation of cranes, pickups and other motor vehicles is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent will work primarily inside around machinery in operation, in close proximity to high and low voltage circuits and climb stairs frequently. Sometimes work will be performed outside in weather of varying degree of temperature and humidity, in tight or cramped work spaces, on ladders or scaffolds and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Occasionally the incumbent will use solvents or degreasing agents, be assigned to protracted or irregular hours of work, use both hands in water and be exposed to silica, asbestos, oil, grease, excessive noise, vibration, smoke and gas fumes. Personal protective safety devices will be supplied to the worker when in an area of hazardous exposure. Examples of devices are hard hats, safety shoes, safety goggles and glasses , fresh air breathing masks, gloves, dust and smoke respirators, ear muffs, insulated gloves and safety grounds. The incumbent, when in an area of hazardous exposure, will wear the appropriate personal safety device. Education No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.
