Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Superintendent Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Tenant Services Division, Upholstery Branch seeks a reliable and independent working Upholsterer Leader to motivate, counsel and lead other employees in accomplishing work in accordance with the supervisor’s instructions over upholstery work, carpet, drapery and Venetian blind maintenance and installation. Duties Tour of duty for this position is: Monday – Friday 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule will include mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends on a regular and recurring basis. The individual selected for this position will: Leader Responsibilities: Passes on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group. Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained to complete work task. Receives necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift; maintaining current knowledge on procedures, policies and written instructions. Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays; and answering supervisors’ questions on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning the need for additional on-the-job training for individual employees). Distributes work in accordance with the supervisor’s instructions and provides technical assistance in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Observes work in progress to meet schedules. Floor Covering Installation: Assists in the planning, lay out, coordination, direction and review of a variety of difficult and exacting work on unusually intricate carpets and draperies. Upholstery Functions: Restores complex historical pieces of custom upholstery. Includes planning and lay out of a variety of difficult and exacting tasks on unusually intricate pieces of executive-type office furniture, such as overstuffed couches and chairs with curved, tufted or cushion surfaces. Makes and hangs custom curtains and drapes; designs and makes special pillows for chairs, cutting, patching and laying rugs and cushions; re-taping, re-roping and adjusting Venetian blinds; and performing other upholstering duties. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. -Knowledge of upholstery, drapery and floor covering installation work to provide technical assistance as well as lead, motivate and distribute work in line with the supervisor’s instructions.
