Summary
As a Custodial Worker (MVO), you will perform custodial and janitorial work such as sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. Work is done by hand or with powered equipment. In order to accomplish the custodial/janitorial assignments the incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park
Duties
The selectee performs a variety of duties related to janitorial, grounds keeping, and facilities maintenance. Does full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area.
Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy powered scrubbers and buffers. Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Removes stains from flooring surfaces. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids.
Washes walls using powered machine or by hand. Washes blinds, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc. using ladders.
Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes parts as needed.
Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Moves heavy boxes, crates, parts, and other obstacles in order to clean up the area and picks up scraps of assorted materials.
Replaces and/or installs paper goods etc. in restrooms. Changes lightbulbs.
As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Performs general trash and rubbish collection and removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc.
Operates a light duty pickup truck in performance of duties. Operates lawn care equipment for standard grounds care activities.
Occasionally provides general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Completes daily work reports.
An appointment to this position is restricted by law (5 U.S.C. 3310) to Veterans who are preference eligible if such applicants are available. All Custodial certificates must list the preference eligible first, then a certificate of non-preference eligible may be issued.

Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
Vehicle Operation: You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

SCREEN OUTS:
Minimum Qualification - Perform difficult laborer and custodial/janitorial tasks including ability to operate trucks weighing up to 10,000 pounds; properly loading and unloading various supplies and equipment; to perform work providing laboring assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, cleaning restrooms, windows, vacuuming carpets, floors, emptying trash and recyclables; operate power equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor buffers and floor strippers. Utilize most hand and power tools associated with these tasks including light hand and power and cleaning custodial tools. Perform these tasks on your own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection for compliance with work and safety standards and policies.
Driver's License: This position requires that the incumbent possess a Driver's License.

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.
Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required when: using ladder and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; operating powered equipment; removing cans of or other containers of trash; and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures.
