Summary

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driverβs license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent may be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.
- Must obtain Explosive Qualification/Certification from the NWS Earle's Qualification/Certification Board within 30 days of employment. Must complete mandatory Naval Crane Center training course in accordance with the NAVFAC P-307.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain within 180 days of employment a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform duties of a RIGGER without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Understand basic math to determine weights, stresses, strengths and/or mechanical advantage of lifts; 2) Selecting and installing weight handling gear used in lifting, moving, and positioning a variety of large and heavy objects; 3) Perform difficult load routing judgments using factors such as size, shape and location. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD/Modified direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
Several vacancies may be filled.
A 40-hour work week is typical for this position.
Call back, emergency overtime and short-notice shift changes are regular requirements for this position.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.
A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Works in cramped and awkward positions while installing rigging. Must have ability for rapid mental and physical coordination to react when signaling the crane operators so they can control brakes and manipulate controls. Normal hearing and good sight is required. Work requires frequent reaching, climbing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling, and prolonged standing and walking. Unassisted lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds is required. May be required to operate chain saws and other cutting gear when performing tree trimming.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in all weather conditions. Subject to constant noise and vibration from equipment in operation, dust, dirt and grease, heat and fumes. Incumbent is further exposed to injury or death if a boom were to come in contact with electrical conductors. Subject to serious injury from swinging loads, breaking slings, and falling objects. Various protective devices such as hard hats, safety shoes and gloves, are required to minimize these conditions.
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
