OVERALL JOB PURPOSE

Performs tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger and subsidiary accounts, maintain and reconcile daily cash accounts, also maintains records of financial accounts, and manages other accounting related duties, all while following established policies and procedures. Prepares various accounting reports and performs other executive duties as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verifies daily all entries to the general ledger, balances the daily Credit Union transactions to all cash accounts including change funds and the daily deposit. Verifies the shares and loan balances to the subsidiary ledger, and posts the daily work.
  • Maintains accounting controls by overseeing asset, liability, and capital account entries, new and matured investments, depreciation and prepaid schedules, and financial institution accounts.
  • Verifies that all journal vouchers and cash received have been properly balanced and authorized.
  • Oversees the maintenance of bank accounts by verifying transactions, making necessary adjustments, and reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares accounts payable checks after receiving proper authorization through the AP module, verifying information input and reports obtained.
  • Balances and reconciles subsidiary accounts, general ledger accounts and bank accounts, researches differences, verifies transactions, posts correcting entries and makes any necessary adjustments, as needed, at least monthly.
  • Reviews daily system control reports and corrects any out of balance conditions or communicates with proper personnel indicating corrections that need to be made and address any system errors.
  • Performs a variety of activities to assist the manager in maintaining the financial, statistical, and accounting records of the Credit Union.
  • Enters data into accounting systems and generates reports on a daily basis. Prepares various financial, regulatory, and special reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly base as requested by management.
  • Transfers funds as requested trough Fedline Advantage by transmitting and receiving funds and executive scheduled transfers. Also accomplishes other Fedline transmissions and reporting as needed.
  • Verifies and maintains the Fixed Assets and Prepaid Expense subsidiary ledger, entering purchases and verifying the depreciation and amortization reports.
  • Processes daily cash management activities and the asset liability management (ALM) processing and reporting including monthly reconcilement and audit preparation.
  • Assists with tax reporting, backup withholding 945 returns, reconciles member tax reporting totals with GL, and ensures proper reporting.
  • Resolves accounting problems by clarifying the problem, determining the cause, selecting the best solution for resolution, and expediting the correction or adjustment.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional knowledge of accounting and accounting concepts.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of debits, credits and college level math.
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • Ability to set priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Initiative to produce professional, accurate, and timely financial reports.
  • Accounts payable familiarity/experience.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires four year Accounting or related field degree
  • Minimum of two years financial institution experience required with progressive responsibilities in accounting procedures preferred
  • General knowledge of credit union accounting operations may be desirable.
