Exciting opportunities are available for qualified Anaesthetists (Senior Medical Officers) who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and supportive team. We are looking for Anaesthetists who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients. Positions include covering planned and acute care theatre sessions, after-hours on-call support and pre-assessment clinics. Our Anaesthetists support other departments, including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, ENT, ophthalmology, dental, mental health, and the emergency department, meaning no two days are the same.

About you

To work as an Anaesthetist (Senior Medical Officer) in New Zealand, you must become registered to practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Practitioners must meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively. Senior Medical Officers are on Tier 1 of New Zealand's Immigration Green List, which means you are eligible for the Straight to Residence Visa and can apply for New Zealand residency before you arrive.

Salary and benefits

Senior Medical Officers receive 6 weeks of annual leave and 12 paid public holidays, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Senior Medical Officer, you will have an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance of $9.2K USD ($16K NZD) (pro-rated for part-time employees, part-time employees with no secondary medical income are eligible for full CME reimbursement), reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.

Senior Medical Officers receive a base salary relative to their level of experience.

  • Medical Officers annual salaries range $81.9K USD - $121.2K USD ($142K NZD - $210K NZD) plus allowances
  • Medical Specialists annual salaries range $106.7K USD - $154K USD ($185K NZD - $267K NZD) plus allowances

Additional allowances are paid on top of base salary and vary due to location and service.
