Position Summary:
Looking to apply computational linguistics to real-world problems? Want to work Big Data from 40+ languages? Join Nuance Research (a Microsoft company) and help us solve some of the hardest problems in speech recognition!
In this internship you will explore the impact of word-piece lexica on ASR accuracy across multiple languages. Byte Pair Encoding and Sentence Piece tokenization are common in the literature, but they do not incorporate any linguistic knowledge of language.
The internship will include processing in-house data, experimental design, training models over a distributed computing environment, analyzing results, and presenting your findings. You will work with a small, global team in a remote working environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct research and experimentation to improve all-neural ASR accuracy
• Review relevant publications and extend algorithms to the Nuance use-case
• Use and extend internal TensorFlow toolkit
• Efficiently process large data sets
• Discuss and present results on a regular basis

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: BS or MS in progress in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related field
• Minimum years of work experience: 0
• Knowledge of standard neural network architectures for ASR
• Good programming skills; experience with Python
• Experience working in a Unix/Linux computing environment with distributed jobs
• You are eligible to work full time (40h/week)
