CLINICAL PHARMACY SPECIALIST
Neonatal Intensive Care

We are currently seeking an experiencedClinical Pharmacy Specialist-NICUfor an immediate full-time career opportunity. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy and is responsible for developing and maintaining the clinical infectious disease pharmacy functions of the medical center and providing inpatient care activities.
Provide specialized pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes including, but not limited to, advising medical professionals on issues concerning drug therapy (inherent toxicity of drugs and their side effects, as well as assisting in the prescription of appropriate doses), contributing to the management of the CHOP Formulary, and actively participating in the advancement of medication safety / quality improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
β’ Developing, coordinating, and adjusting Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP):
β’ Collaborating with infectious disease physicians, pharmacy clinical directors/managers, infection control, clinical laboratory staff and other professionals to develop and maintain an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
β’ Conducting rounds to provide pharmacotherapeutic management for patients.
β’ Participating in reporting ADEs to institutional committees.
β’ Documenting clinical activities including disease state management, general pharmacotherapeutic monitoring, pharmacokinetic monitoring, ADEs, education, and other patient care activities
β’ Presenting didactic lectures to health professional residents and students in critical care pharmacology and therapeutics.
β’ Acting as a liaison between pharmacy, nursing, and the medical staff to educate health professionals regarding current drug-related procedures, policies, guidelines, and pathways.
β’ Participating in training pharmacy students and residents through experiential critical care rotations.
β’ Implementing and maintaining departmental policies and procedures related to safe and effective use of drugs.
β’ Collaborates with nursing, medical staff, and hospital administration to prepare the staff for The Joint Commission survey and responds to any deficiencies identified.
β’ Provides consultation to hospital committees, such as Pharmacy Therapeutics and Nutrition, when critical care pharmacotherapy issues are discussed.
β’ Identifies how drug costs may be minimized through appropriate use of drugs and through implementation of cost-containment measures.
β’ Participates in quality assurance programs to enhance pharmaceutical care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
β’ Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy required
β’ Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency
β’ Completion of PGY2 Specialty residency -NICU
β’ Extensive knowledge of drugs, medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, diagnosis and disease states.
β’ Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with various members of the health care teams.
β’ Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form.
β’ 2 years of clinical experience preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
License/Certifications:
β’ New York State Pharmacists License, or eligibility to sit for the exam.
β’ Board Certification in NICU preferred.
β’ Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (American Heart Association) or PALS & NRP certifications.
SALARY: $140,000 -$150,000 per year
