Coil Welder

Green Lake Tube, LLC (GLT) manufactures electric resistance welded mechanical and structural tubing from our manufacturing facility in Gary, Indiana. GLT is in search of a Tube Mill Coil Welder in the Steel Tubing Manufacturing Industry. Responsibilities • Select and verify slit coils to be joined and fed into tube mill match order requirements for width, gage, and steel grade • Load slit coil onto payoff reel with crane and feed coil ends into end welder • Set up, adjust and operate end welder equipment to make welds of adequate quality that does not cause tube mill down time • Operate strip accumulator equipment • Observe incoming strip entering mill and advise Tube Mill Operator if defects are present • Advise Tube Mill Operator when a coil end weld is entering the tube mill • Assist in changing over and setting up the tube mill • Enter correct slit coil number onto Tube Mill entry production report • Refer concerns about strip quality or equipment condition to Production Supervisor and Tube Mill Operator • Use hand grinder, caliper, micrometer, and cutting torch • Communicate with employees of other shifts regarding status of operations, equipment, etc. • Perform routine and preventative maintenance as needed on equipment • Assist maintenance personnel in repair of end welder, strip accumulator and associated equipment • Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area • Must be able to work overtime as needed to support customer requirements • Must be available to work unscheduled overtime • Ability to work well with coworkers as a team • Various other duties as assigned by management Skills and Abilities • Ability to work in a safe manner • Demonstrates ability to operate overhead gantry crane • Demonstrates ability to perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) • Demonstrates ability to follow specific instructions and directions • Demonstrates ability to use and operate hand tools • Demonstrates ability to stack material properly • Ability to recognize quality of material • Ability to pay attention to surroundings • Ability to identify safety issues in their work area and notice equipment malfunctions • Ability to read a tape measure • Ability to troubleshoot the machine or equipment in use • Ability to understand efficiencies and productivity measures • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. • Ability to stand for long periods of time operating and tending to machines • Ability to bend, twist and stretch • Ability to work under immediate supervision • Ability to pass a drug test • Ability to work hours mandated by management Conduct • Punctual and reliable • Safety conscious • Team player and goal-oriented • Open to change and positive attitude • Committed to plant and company goals 2nd shift hours: 2pm-10pm $2.00 shift premium Job Type: Full-time Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour (2nd shift) Job Type: Full-time Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Health savings account • Life insurance • Paid time off • Retirement plan • Vision insurance Shift: • 8 hour shift • Day shift • Night shift Education: • High school or equivalent (Preferred) Experience: • Manufacturing: 1 year (Preferred) License/Certification: • Driver's License (Preferred) Shift availability: • Night Shift (Preferred) Work Location: In person
