DevOps Engineer

DEVOPS AT PI:

Our DevOps vision is to create a self-service “Pit of Success” so that our engineering teams are empowered to build and run their services without handoffs and waiting for our team. 

Technologies we currently use include GitHub, CircleCi, Octopus, Azure Cloud, Datadog

POSITION:
We’re looking for a driven SE2 or Senior DevOps Engineer with Azure experience, and someone who has a proven track record for deploying infrastructure as code. You will work on a team responsible for managing multiple applications across the department, while maintaining a stable production environment. We look to automate repetitive tasks wherever we can so our environments are stable and consistent, and it is of  high importance to identify where those scripts are needed as well as the ability to implement them. Open communication around the status of work is extremely important. You will be a mentor and a technical contributor to our roadmap, determining which problems to solve, balancing the ideal vs.quick solution, and scope to drive to success. You will also work closely with your peers in our Developer Tooling, SDET and DBA functions within the Developer Experience (DevX) group.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

• Contribute to a long-term plan to have all Azure resources deployed using Infrastructure as Code, specifically Bicep.
• Troubleshoot and build upon the established CI/CD process to ensure builds and deployments are stable and reliable.
• Partner with quality engineering, security, and development teams to craft solutions that enable us to move quickly while maintaining software and infrastructure that is easy to change, enhance and scale.
• Partner with software engineering teams to understand their needs and provide a high level of service towards enabling their efficiency, particularly with new self-service tools.
• Identify where automation could enhance a developer’s day-to-day and speed up a process, and be proactive in presenting it to the team.
• Enforce least privilege while still maintaining our level of service to developers when managing access and permissions to our software and applications.
• Maintain the PI standards regarding configuration management, naming convention, and best coding practices. 
• Interview potential new team members, mentor existing team members, and guide new skill development for software engineers.
• Leverage feedback and retros to continuously improve technology and process with your team.
• Ensure stellar levels of uptime and software performance for multiple software projects with a large, global client base.

• Strong track record of delivering complex software applications using the DevOps SDLC in a fast paced, agile environment using CI/CD tools (e.g. CircleCi, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
• Experience setting up and maintaining a cloud-based infrastructure, ideally with Azure
• Scripting experience in Powershell or similar language to create automation, migration, and utility scripts as needed.
• Ability to learn multiple applications quickly and use root cause analysis to diagnose a complex system.
• Understanding of DevOps best practices in regards to maintaining a stable environment, appropriate precautions when making production changes, responses to security incidents.
• Change agent willing to experiment, learn, and pivot by making data driven decisions
• Strong mentor and advocate, working to level up other engineers in their knowledge of and day-to-day use of infrastructure tools.
