Job Summary:
The Methodist Transplant Institute, based at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking a board-certified transplant surgeon with expertise in liver and kidney transplantation. This opportunity is ideal for a highly skilled surgeon to join a nationally recognized program within a dynamic and integrated health system.About the Program:
Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital is a 250-bed facility dedicated to transplantation services. It is part of the Methodist Healthcare System, a comprehensive hospital network serving South Texas. The transplant institute has a 40-year legacy of surgical excellence and outstanding clinical outcomes and recognized as the most respected and preferred healthcare provider in South Texas.
Transplant Program Highlights:
- Over 350 kidney transplants performed annually, among the highest volumes in the nation
- The liver transplant program, established in 2001, has completed over 1,000 liver transplants and averages 65 transplants per year
- Recognized nationally for top-tier patient and graft survival outcomes; previously ranked #1 in SRTR for risk-adjusted outcomes (2021 release)
- Â Home to the largest live donor kidney transplant program in the United States
- Operates the largest single-center kidney paired exchange program in the nation

- Fully integrated, multidisciplinary transplant team including surgery, nephrology, hepatology, nursing, administration, and support staff under a unified care model
- Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, completion of an ASTS-accredited abdominal transplant fellowship
- Eligible for an unrestricted Texas medical license
- Experienced physicians and new graduates will be considered
- The ability to independently perform deceased donor liver and kidney transplantation is required
- Proficient in liver transplantation and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy’s
- Â Desire to work in a consensus model of very experienced group of hepatologists, nephrologists, and transplant surgeons with low resident participation
