Engineering Manager

Vonage is the emerging leader in the $100B+ cloud communications platform (CPaaS) market. Customers like Airbnb Viber Whatsapp Snapchat and many others depend on our APIs and SDKs to connect with their customers all over the world.

Why this role matters:

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead one of our engineering tribes made up of multiple squads. In this role you’ll provide leadership across the full development lifecycle ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services. You’ll  partner closely with the Director of Engineering as a trusted advisor contributing to the ongoing transformation of the organisation.

You’ll lead a team responsible for the systems at the heart of our CPaaS platform—services that power all our API products and process high volumes of data. The work spans both legacy systems and greenfield projects presenting a unique blend of technical challenges and design opportunities.

Your key responsibilities:

• Take a value-driven principle-based approach over rigid or dogmatic practices.

• Contribute to architecture discussions bringing both technical depth and collaborative problem-solving skills.

• Lead a core team of engineers with a people-first approach fostering growth collaboration and high performance.

• Drive improvements across the wider organisation beyond your team’s immediate responsibilities.

• Be a strong advocate for DevOps agile and lean software development practices.

• A drive to always leave things better than how you found them: Code processes documentation interactions with people and every other aspect of your work life.

What you'll bring:

• Hands-on Coding Experience- At Vonage our managers are technical leaders who can both write and review code fluently.

• Agile and Software Delivery- You are comfortable working within Agile methodologies and have a strong understanding of software delivery practices.

• You understand architecture and can take part in discussions

Technical Experience:

• At least one of Java Golang Kotlin Python or a similar programming language

• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS preferred)

• Mapping of platform architectures

• System design

• Strong understanding of security best practices

• Kubernetes or a similar container orchestrator

• Kafka or similar event bus technology
