SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers ten applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 40 associate degrees and 93 professional certificates, in 43 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary of Responsibilities: Directs and manages the daily accounting activities of the college including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue/cash accounting, cash and investment management, and fixed asset inventory through the community and technical college financial management system. Provide leadership and direction in accounting and operational matters for the college. Direct accounting activity and workflow with other departments and agencies. This is a contracted exempt management position that reports to the Director, Financial Services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Support the college's mission by fostering a learning and work environment of mutual respect, fairness, and multicultural understanding, while promoting creative and critical thinking. • Manage college accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, financial transaction auditing, and system controls to meet institutional, state, and federal standards. • Review student financials activity and reconcile internal cash; coordinate with student financials and grant staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with spending guidelines. • Prepare and approve manual journal entries, analyze trial balances, and investigate and correct errors in the general ledger. • Oversee item type general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and requesting additions or changes as needed. • Recommend and implement fiscal policies and procedures aligned with GAAP and GASB standards, leveraging technology to improve productivity and financial reporting. • Coordinate and communicate fiscal procedures and determine methods for improving services. • Interpret and implement applicable state and federal regulations in financial processes. • Prepare, analyze, and present various financial reports to support management decision-making. • Perform month-end, year-end, and biennial closing processes, including AR/AP/travel accruals and fiscal year-end reviews. • File Sales/Use tax returns with the Department of Revenue. • Participate in state budgeting, accounting, and reporting committee meetings. • Review SMART reconciliation monthly and ensure corrected entries are posted timely. • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field. • Four(4) years of full-time experience in an accounting department. • Must be self-starter with analytical mindset. • Ability to pay strong attention to detail. • Ability to independently research and resolve accounting, budgeting and forecasting issues. • Ability to collaborate and/or work with staff with diverse backgrounds. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Compensation & Work Schedule Salary is $7,500 per month. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. Working hours are typically 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday with the option to telework 2-3 days per week. Some weekend and evenings may be required.
