Job Description
AECOM is seeking an entry-level Architectural Historian based in Raleigh, NC.
The position is scheduled to begin in June 2023.
The responsibilities of this position will include the following:
- Ability to work in both independent and team environments
- Act as a key consultant to document and inventory historic sites in North Carolina and throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions
- Work with the details of a historic resource project from pre-field stages through reconnaissance survey, intensive survey, NRHP eligibility recommendations, and reporting to federal, state and/or local agencies
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors degree with two years experience in related field
- Due to the nature of this job US Citizenship is required
- 0-3 years experience in architectural history and historic preservation with focus on recording, researching, analyzing, and understanding historic architectural resources
- Masters degree in architectural history, historic preservation, or closely related discipline
- Strong knowledge of Section 106 of the NHPA and the necessary regulatory steps as it applies to historic properties
- Understanding of vernacular, twentieth-century, and other historic American architecture; knowledge of North Carolina architecture preferred
- Ability to parse the design and history of everyday architectural resources and associated landscapes, in order to evaluate their NRHP eligibility
- Desire and ability to conduct field surveys, sometimes in out-of-the-way locations, requiring travel and overnight stays
- Capacity to clearly record historic resources with text, photographs, and sketches, as needed, and draft lucid reports
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
