The primary purpose of this position is to repair, overhaul, modify, test, and install locking devices and their
working interrelationship with monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms, sensors, and other related items which make up a complete security or surveillance system.

- May be required to serve "on call" and may be required to be available after duty hours when problems arise. The incumbent is subject to call seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
- Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and Real World Threats and Events.
- Employee will be required to support Special Events (i.e., Annual Air Show, Base Exercises) not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
- Employee will be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.
- The work will require the employee to carry an electronic beeper or cell phone.
- Keeps abreast of developments in lock and security systems by regularly reading/reviewing a variety of current publications as well as formal training and correspondence.
Qualifications
This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Essential Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions, IAW DoDI 3020-42, Defense Continuity Programs.
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Trouble shooting
In this position you will be primarily assigned to perform locksmith functions. Locksmith duties include making new keys from duplications, impressions, and key codes from a variety of key blanks. When a pattern is available, places pattern inside key cutting machine and traces new key according to pattern. When key codes are available, uses key combination in duplicating keys. When neither pattern key nor code is available, removes cylinder and measures the length of pin tumblers and then manufactures new key by these dimensions or makes the key by impression method, inserting blank key in lock, obtaining impression from the pins, making file cuts and encodes by applying key gauge to the cuts made. If no blanks are available, uses duplicating machine with milling
attachments to cut broaches or shoulders to tolerance.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
