Job Description
THE ROLE: Media Software Engineer
The Media Software Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of software related to media systems for all A+E Networks (A&E, Lifetime, History, etc.).
This position plays a critical role in executing software development projects for a team focusing on media supply chain and media processing infrastructure. These applications and infrastructure are fundamental to the management of video, audio, and other related media essence files as they move throughout the company's internal and cloud-based content supply chains, including distribution to hundreds of the world's top cable systems and streaming platforms. We are expanding our team and looking for a new back-end developer to help with media workflows, data transformation, and cloud-based infrastructure automation.
MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Write, test, and debug software, primarily in Python, to enable back-end data processing, integrations, transformations, and automations for media workflows.
- Help design, develop, and deploy media workflows in the cloud using a variety of hosted and custom-built software solutions.
- Advocate for and adhere to best development practices (like unit testing) in partnership with team tech lead.
- Assist in building maintainable development platforms, including configuration of development, QA and production environments related to media processing.
- Create documentation for training operational personnel and support engineers as necessary on how our software tools work and how to troubleshoot.
- Serve as an escalation point to internal teams helping to resolve complex issues related to our software and tools.
- Mentor and enhance the skillset of other team members and enable team members to contribute to software projects who may only be part-time developers.
- Support the department's efforts around diversity and inclusion throughout all areas of responsibility.
YOUR STORY:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 3+ years' back-end software development and configuration experience with a solid understanding of software architecture.
- 2+ years' experience with a scripting language such as Python, Ruby, PHP, Perl or JavaScript. Strong experience in Python a plus.
- Familiarity with Linux and UNIX-based operating systems, with the ability to perform administrative tasks including environment configuration and troubleshooting using key system tools.
- Familiarity with cloud-computing and the tools available from modern cloud infrastructure providers such as Google, Microsoft, IBM and Oracle, with a strong preference for knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience working with users to gather and create development requirements.
Compensation
Annual Pay Range: $100,272 - $125,778
Annual Incentive Target: 7.50%
The annual/hourly pay range displayed serves as a good faith estimate of the
minimum and maximum base pay range for this role. Compensation for the role will
be based on a number of different factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills,
competencies, location, and experience. A+E offers a competitive total compensation
