This role you will repair and maintenance of critical submarine and ship systems, ensuring operational readiness for the U.S. Navy. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on trade knowledge, and a proven ability to manage complex mechanical repair tasks in compliance with NAVSEA standards. Key Responsibilities As an Outside Machinist, you will: • Inspect, repair, and install of submarine and shipboard components, including sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems. • Removal, inspection, and repair of periscopes, masts, antennas, and other submarine sail components. • Direct repair and restoration of propulsion shafts, couplings, and vibration reducers. • Manage repair and reinstallation of fairwater, stern plane, and steering/diving system components. • Lead repair and overhaul of main and auxiliary machinery such as capstans, shaft seals, snorkel systems, pumps, resilient mounts, valves, and valve subcomponents. • Ensure safe work practices, proper use of tools, and compliance with OSHA and NAVSEA standards. Qualifications & Experience • Citizenship:Must be a U.S. citizen. Clearance:Must hold a fully adjudicated Secret Clearance. Experience: • Open, inspect, and repair components of submarine sea water, hydraulic, and diesel systems. • Remove, inspect, and repair various components (periscope, masts, and antennas) of submarine sail. • Perform repair and restoration work on propulsion shaft, shaft couplings or vibration reducers. • Remove, inspect and repair and reinstall various fairwater, stern plane, and/or steering & diving system components. • Repair all types of main and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to capstan, shaft seals, snorkel induction, snorkel exhaust, mast, and various types of pumps, resilient mounts, valves and valve sub-components. • Remove, repair, overhaul, install and align equipment associated with auxiliary systems such as condensers, compressors, pumps, forced draft blowers, main feed pumps and various types of valves. • Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of ship’s armament. • Use various portable and fixed and auxiliary machinery, including but not limited to capstan, shaft seals, snorkel induction, snorkel exhaust, mast, and various types of pumps, resilient mounts, valves and valve sub-components. • Trade Skills: • Specialized experience on U.S. Navy vessels or commercial marine settings performing at least 2 of the listed typical trade tasks. • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments (height/depth gauges, calipers, Vernier scales, micrometers). • Ability to read, interpret, and apply blueprints. • Knowledge of shop math and geometry to accurately lay out angles, arcs, and circles.
