About the roles
Exciting opportunities are available for qualified Paediatricians (Senior Medical Officers) who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and supportive team. We are looking for Paediatricians who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients. Our Paediatric teams provides inpatient, outpatient and community services around the country.
Positions are available across New Zealand with immediate start dates, or you can speak with our recruitment team about your plans to move to New Zealand.
Depending on the specific position, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Working with physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other specialists to provide integrated care for children with complex needs
- Clinical duties and management: Conducting assessments, ward rounds, outpatient clinics, triaging referrals, and managing acutely unwell or chronically ill children. Engaging with caregivers, whanau, and the wider care team
- Education and mentorship: Teaching and mentoring registrars, medical students, and healthcare staff, and providing patient education
- Service development: Participating in quality improvement, clinical audits, research, and developing clinical pathways to enhance paediatric care
About you
To work as a Paediatrician (Senior Medical Officer) in New Zealand, you must become registered to practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Practitioners must meet competency standards and hold Annual Practising Certificates (APCs) to work safely and effectively. Salary and benefits
Senior Medical Officers receive 6 weeks of annual leave and 12 paid public holidays, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and raise a family in our diverse communities. Along with your base salary as a Senior Medical Officer, you will have an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance $9.2K USD ($16K NZD) (pro-rated for part-time employees), reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees and your professional indemnity insurance is covered by Health New Zealand.
Senior Medical Officers receive a base salary relative to their level of experience.
- Medical Officers annual salaries range $81.9K USD - $121.2K USD ($142K NZD - $210K NZD) plus allowances
- Medical Specialists annual salaries range $106.7K USD - $154K USD ($185K NZD - $267K NZD) plus allowances
Additional allowances are paid on top of base salary and vary due to location and service.
