Job Description

Works autonomously having responsibility to deliver on longer term outcomes. Reports directly to a Director or Senior Director. Requires extensive knowledge of multiple/related functional areas and industry practices. Evaluates, plans, and executes complex projects where analyses of situations requires working with ambiguous or unclear factors. Influences key business decisions within and outside the organization or product area

Essential Job Functions:

  • Has specialized depth and/or breadth in a product/business area and is considered a company-level expert
  • Demonstrates advanced capabilities with respect to software systems and processes within job area
  • Implements solutions to minimize disruptions caused by changes in the business environment.
  • Mastery in computer science fundamentals - Algorithm design, Problem solving, Complexity analysis and data structures.

Engineering/Operations Excellence:

  • Creates, tests, refines, and implements work pieces that improve overall system functionality
  • Takes corrective action when tech debt accumulates and there are gaps in engineering excellence
  • Proactively identifies gaps with potential risk mitigation strategies and/or technology solutions.
  • Holds the team accountable to aligned priorities, escalating when necessary
  • Openly owns responsibility for actions and results and is comfortable with uncertainty

Collaboration:

  • Guides other colleagues through consultation and mentoring in techniques and processes and provides functional supervision.
  • Integrates the culture of intelligence, integrity, and initiative into team goals and decisions.
  • Engages stakeholders and cross-functional partners in effective communication that clearly conveys information
  • Establishes a network of colleagues to support tech or business opportunities

Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least 7 8 years of related experience, or equivalent training and/or work experience. Also, requires 3-4 years experience leading and influencing other technologists.
  • Mastery level system design experience
  • Mastery level experience in object-oriented development
  • Mastery level experience with cloud technologies
  • Strong experience in data storage technologies
  • Strong background in performance tuning and optimization
  • Strong background in DevOps and CICD technologies
  • Strong background in test automation and unit testing
  • Strong background in software security

Working Conditions:

  • This is a hybrid position, with office attendance expected as deemed necessary.
  • Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.

Time Off and Paid Leave*

FINRA encourages its employees to focus on their health and wellness in many ways, including through a generous time-off program of 15 days of paid time off, 5 personal days and 9 sick days (all pro-rated in the first year). Additionally, we are proud to support our communities by providing two volunteer service days (based on full-time schedule). Other paid leave includes military leave, jury duty leave, bereavement leave, voting and election official leave for federal, state or local primary and general elections, care of a family member leave (available after 90 days of employment); and childbirth and parental leave (available after 90 days of employment). FINRA’s Code of Conduct imposes restrictions on employees’ investments and requires financial disclosures that are uniquely related to our role as a securities regulator. FINRA employees are required to disclose to FINRA all brokerage accounts that they maintain, and those in which they control trading or have a financial interest (including any trust account of which they are a trustee or beneficiary and all accounts of a spouse, domestic partner or minor child who lives with the employee) and to authorize their broker-dealers to provide FINRA with duplicate statements for all of those accounts.
