The designer in this position manages all phases of product development, which includes creative direction, costing, and production specifications for assigned accounts. This position reports to the Director of Product Development and will partner on a cross-functional basis with Sales, Purchasing, and Operations.

The designer in this position is responsible for:

• Creating viable product concepts that obtain the goals and objectives for assigned accounts
• Collaborating with the Cost Analyst to ensure that target margins are achieved
• Accountability for all aspects of the product from concept through production
• Ensuring product concepts are designed, developed, costed, and reviewed on schedule
• Providing creative direction and actively participating in strategy meetings
• Ensuring that product samples and the corresponding costing system product worksheet details are accurate

The person in this position will perform the following tasks:

• Concept, sample request, design and manage all product details for the seasonal and everyday wholesale product lines
• Manage the process required of product development, be able to prioritize the action items and work through them systematically
• Manage and communicate all details of a product and any changes made to Merchandising, Purchasing, Packaging, Graphics and Operations
• Follow up regularly on open issues with appropriate departments
• Actively involve operations, packaging, purchasing, and creative graphics to assist in product development
• Understand wholesale purchasing opportunities / efficiencies and capitalize on sister company purchasing synergies
• Ensure that the components used in product samples are accurate and match the components in the costing system

A successful Product Designer will demonstrate the following:

• Product line deadlines are met according to Product Development Wholesale Schedule
• Product lines are approved by Sales and target margins have been achieved
• Product Worksheets are accurate and match the product sample
• Projects are managed such that avoidable stress is minimized
• Effective SKU management practices (attention to detail, communication, follow up) result in zero cost / quality errors on sold products
• Cooperative and productive working relationships exist with supporting departments

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience working in a product design role in a CPG or retail environment; strong product innovation experience a plus
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, product management or merchandising or related
• Ability to provide portfolio with several strong examples of product design examples
• Experience managing multiple projects in a matrix environment
