RAN Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Mavenir is looking for systems engineers to help development of Open RAN (O-RAN) base stations.

You will work with other system engineers, software developers and test engineers. You will provide feature requirement specifications, technical advices to the team and coordinate the implementation works so that the product achieves best KPIs with minimal computational complexity.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in 3GPP LTE and NR RAN standards, wireless communications, OFDM, MIMO, signal processing, RAN system design & analysis across L1/L2/L3, and field trials.

Key Responsibilities

The system engineers hired for this position will have responsibilities on some of the followings:

• Write feature requirement specifications and oversee feature implementations
  • Read 3GPP specifications and explain them to developers
  • Define clear requirements for feature implementations
  • Define integration test cases and pass criteria for the requirements
  • Oversee implementation and integration testing, and provide technical advices
• Standardization
  • Work with implementation team and other system engineers to form proposals for 3GPP RAN WGs / O-RAN that are necessary for productization.
  • Attend O-RAN / 3GPP RAN WG meetings and push the proposal through
• PHY/MAC Algorithm development
  • Develop PHY/MAC algorithms for non-terrestrial network systems.
  • Develop PHY/MAC algorithms for O-RAN base stations
• IPR generation
  • Develop standards-essential patents for 3GPP / O-RAN standards
  • Develop essential implementation patents that will help to differentiate the products
• Link-level simulations
  • Characterize BLER performance of data / control channels
  • Characterize detection / false alarm probability of PRACH
  • Develop TDL / CDL channel models
  • Develop bit-exact test vectors
  • Analyze performance of new PHY algorithms for new application scenarios, e.g., NTN
• System-level simulations
  • Develop hexagonal layout for characterizing multi-cellular environment
  • Implement SCM based on 3GPP TRs, 38.901 and 38.811
  • Implement link-to-system mapping

Implement link adaptation and HARQ

Job Requirements

• Strong fundamental technical background & experiences in some of the following areas:
  • 3GPP LTE and NR RAN standards
  • Wireless communication theory, information theory, digital signal processing
  • OFDM, L1 algorithms (modem algorithms, e.g., demodulator, MIMO receiver, MMSE-IRC, etc.), L2 algorithms (link adaptation, power control, scheduling, etc.)
  • L3 protocol stacks
  • RAN baseband system design & architecture, time budget, core counting
  • 3GPP channel models (38.901, 38.811)
  • NTN and satellite communications
  • Link and system-level simulations
• Programming skills: C/C++, Matlab, Python
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• M.S. or Ph.D degree in EE, majoring in wireless communications, minimum 5 year experience in telecommunications industry
