  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination, annual physical examination, and continue to be physically fit. Must be able to discern colors, contrast, and depth IAW OPM standards.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must have reached your 18th birthday prior to appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Call back and emergency overtime may be requirements of this position. Work may include assignment to train first, second, third, or rotating shifts or weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent must be able to be obtain and maintain current certification for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards.
  • You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of generalized experience following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contact with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information. This experience may be technical, administrative, clerical, military, or from other work.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Maintaining order and protecting life; 2) Checking for credentials/identification, monitoring CCTV, screening/inspecting personal/vehicles; and 3) Standing at a fixed post, monitoring alarms, and monitoring individuals entering or exiting an establishment/installation.

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events.

Important Note: qualifying specialized experience includes work with federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organizations focused on protecting property from hazards like fire, theft, damage, accidents, or trespass, as well as maintaining order and safeguarding life. This experience should demonstrate knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience also includes service in the Armed Forces or Coast Guard involving regular or intermittent guard duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

You may qualify with education in lieu of specialized experience at the following grade levels:

GS-04: at least 2 years above high school may be substituted in lieu of general experience.
OR
Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
