Job Description
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. This position is responsible for preparing monthly financial statements and recording all balance sheet and income statement activity in accordance with both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax accounting standards.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Demonstrates highest standards of personal and professional integrity, adheres to company’s policies and procedures, and complies with applicable laws, government rules and regulations.
• Prepare accurate financial statements, including bank reconciliations for complex portfolio assignments.
• Collaborate with external tax and audit firms to produce annual investor tax statements, provide audit statements and documentation, and respond to related inquiries. Research and analyze financial transactions to summarize and report on financial status.
• Record acquisition and disbursement activities for new and existing assets.
• Reviews and interpret general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Partner with internal departments (e.g. Structure and Finance, Asset Management) to resolve discrepancies and recommend improvements to accounting systems and procedures.
• Support the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls.
• Assist with training and mentoring staff-level accountants.
• Contribute to audit processes, including preparation of financial statement footnotes.
• Assists with special accounting projects as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university.Experience:
• This position requires over 2 years up to 7 years of prior professional accounting experience, preferably in a real estate environment.
• This position requires prior tax preparation and/or audit experience.Certifications/Licenses:
• The following certification is preferred for this position: Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.).Skills:
• Keyboarding skills are required for this position.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Outlook are required for this position
• Intermediate skills in Yardi (or comparable general ledger software program) are required for this position.Annual Base Salary Range:$90,000-$115,000. This position is eligible to participate in the company’s annual discretionary bonus program.
