Senior Core Engineer

DUTIES: BorgWarner PDS (USA) Inc. seeks a Sr. Core Engineer based out of our office at 3800 Automation Avenue, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position does not require travel.

Establish and maintain a knowledge database for their technical field consisting of design guidelines, engineering tools, and technical sign-off checklists; Supports the Business Growth team with innovations, platform designs, and technical roadmaps for their responsible areas and provides design solutions for new business opportunities; Responsible for components used for lubrication, cooling, oil routing and cleanliness such as the pump, oil, and filter; Perform engineering analysis and calculations to quickly identify component designs for new business opportunities; Provide a technical roadmap for advanced technology or cost reduction opportunities such as pumpless design solutions; Issue CAE requests and provide direction as needed for analysis of systems and components; Create and maintain generic component and/or sub-system DFMEAs and use them to define Special Characteristics; and Create supplier technical assessment forms.

REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or Physics and five years of experience in the job offered or related. Experience must include: experience with powertrain, driveline and/or 4WD systems; experience with the Product Development Process; experience with the development and maintenance of DFMEAs; experience with Root Cause Analysis; experience with DFM/DFA; experience with MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project/Teams); experience with Root Cause Analysis and/or 8D Problem Solving tools; experience with Technical Writing; experience with DFMEA; experience with CFD Analysis; experience with fluid dynamics and heat transfer design fundamentals and the related analysis methods including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD); experience with determining lubrication and cooling system performance requirements and then cascading these requirements to each component to create performance, validation, and quality specifications; experience with electronically controlled pump designs, including functions, failure modes, analytical tools, and validation requirements; experience with oil specifications including the base stock, additive package, physical characteristics, and the impact of these items on the lubrication system performance; experience with filter design options and how they impact the system lubrication and cleanliness requirements; and experience with heat exchangers and the ability to properly specify, size, and validate them for various applications.
