If so, Guardian is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to join the Investments Technology team responsible for establishing and maintaining an adaptable data infrastructure in order to provide access to high quality, consistent data in an easy and convenient manner to all authorized end users and applications.
Our team is looking for a data driven person who has engineered and supported critical applications in an insurance / financial environment and is experienced in ETL, data warehousing and setting up data pipelines across the enterprise. This seasoned professional will need to interface with the Investments business and IT management, providing them with data solutions, timely and accurate status updates, short-term / long-term plans, release plans, etc. in a clear consistent manner that emphasizes performance metrics, strategic planning, continuous improvement and adherence to industry best practices. The candidate will display technical and functional competence in data management standards and uphold Guardian's commitment to Guardian values.
You Will:
As the Engineer, you will report to Investments Applications Manager. Your responsibilities will include the following activities:
- Primary production support for data ETL jobs within the Integrated Data Warehouse and Data Analytics and Insights applications. Focus on processes around the availability, SLA and efficiency of our core data services, batch jobs and applications.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex production problems related to data, data file delivery, performance and server and application issues.
- Ensure completion of root cause analysis and eliminate repeated incidents.
- Solve problems related to the Core services systems and the buildout of automation to prevent problem recurrence with the goal of automating response to all non-exceptional service conditions. (5%)
- Collaborate with the Business Analysts and development teams to resolve complex data design or transformation issues and provide solutions that meet business requirements.
- Comply with, identify and adopt operational best practices and process improvements within the following functional areas: Audit, Risk, Change Management, Event detection, Incident Management, Problem Management, Vulnerability Management, Tools and Application Support and Data Privacy and Protection.
- Plan and Support Platform Upgrades, Disaster Recovery Exercises, etc.
- Develop and maintain documentation, departmental technical procedures, and user guides.
- Maintain data pipelines and build out new integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
- Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring production data accuracy and assist in data analysis to solve and resolve data issues.
- Data engineering abilities and expertise in using SQL, DDL/DML, performance tuning, data modeling and data warehousing techniques.
- In-depth knowledge working with enterprise scheduler BMC Control-M.
- Experience with relational/non-relational databases and understanding of storage technologies like SQL Server. Work with DBA and other staff as necessary, to instantiate physical databases based on the models.
- Proven success using AWS services such as S3, EMR, EC2, or data lake architecture is a plus.
- Review data sources and assess data quality; figure out appropriate data inputs, outputs and integration rules and strategy. Advanced problem solving, data analytics and troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate and solve complex business needs. Exposure to Data Integration tools like SSIS and Informatica.
- Work flexible hours as required to achieve a global follow-the-sun support model.
You Have:
- Expert-level data sourcing and data mapping and data analysis skills.
- Expert-level database skills - creating and optimizing queries and data structures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a project team.
- Ability to self-manage tasks to meet delivery targets.
- Investment or financial services domain knowledge
- Relational database concepts; Solid experience with data integration
- Experience using ETL tools.
- Strong RDBMS knowledge.
- 8+ Years of IT industry experience, with demonstrated ability as a Data Engineer or in data related areas.
- 5+ years of strong SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Server, stored procedures, and Control-M experience
- At least 3 years of Informatica experience
- Strong success in Data Integration - ETL Tools
- Strong UNIX Shell Scripting experience
- Experience working with CI/CD - Bitbucket (GIT), Jenkins
- Significant experience collaborating with business end-users
- Preferred experience with NeoXam DataHub
- Preferred experience with AWS - S3, EMR, EC2
Location & Travel:
- 2 Days a week at a Guardian office in New York, NY, or Holmdel, NJ,
Salary Range
$89,470.00 - $146,980.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
