Senior Fluidics Engineer

About Us

Encodia is seeking a self-starting, cross-functional, senior-level fluidics engineer to join our growing team and help commercialize our first on-market platform. This engineering position will be asked to work on a wide range of challenges and is expected to have a big impact on the go-to-market platform.

Job SummaryAs we prepare for Encodia's Commercial Instrument, a fluidics engineer will conceptualize microfluidic consumable designs and help optimize our current fluidic architecture. This role requires experience working with fluidic instrumentation and experience solving both macro / micro level fluidic challenges. This engineer would help refine the fluidic architecture system requirements through fixture design, evaluate and integrate various sensors for system robustness, and help troubleshoot fluidic instrument failures. The engineer will also help manage external partners for high volume consumable manufacturing.

Job Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally to translate assay/chemistry requirements to engineering designs
• Demonstrated experience prototyping and manufacturing microfluidic devices
• Develop and execute test methods to rapidly down-select between fluidic architecture concepts
• Design fluidic test fixtures (using CAD) to measure fluidic architecture performance against system level requirements and specifications
• Lead customization of critical fluid components such as pumps, valves tubing and sensors to meet cost, reliability, serviceability and performance requirements
• Work with external partners for rapid prototyping and manufacturing of high-volume consumables
• Leverage CFD experience to further support empirical test data with theoretical modeling
• Optimize systematic chemistry performance through integration testing, script development and critical parameter management

Requirements

• BS with 5+ years of experience OR MS with 3+ years in an engineering discipline
• 5+ years of experience in the development of analytical/diagnostic instrumentation and/or consumables for commercial products.
• Experience using design of experiments and root cause analysis to understand fluidic performance and remediate anomalies
• Understanding of chemical compatibility and fluidic properties of various reagents/chemicals
• Highly-motivated, proactive, and agile team player who is willing to be extremely hands on and support multiple groups across the organization
• Experience working with and managing external partners
• Must be able to effectively communicate across departments and all levels of the organization

Highly Desirable

• PhD with 1+ years industry experience in an engineering discipline
• Micro- or nanofabrication experience of microfluidic devices
• Basic understanding of proteomics, DNA sequencing, library prep, bioconjugation, and biochemistry methods
• Experience taking a fluidic design through product development and product launch
