Senior Front-end Developer

What you'll be doing…

As a Senior Front-end Developer, you’ll work as an important member of Future’s Platform Team, in close collaboration with the wider Technology & Engineering department. Your key aim is to ensure the delivery of scalable, well-structured, efficient web applications and components; work on green-field projects built from the ground up - using the latest libraries and best practices - and maintain existing code. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will manage the planning of new software components, refactoring existing code, and working with other teams to build new services and products. You will build new components for Future’s Vanilla platform. Vanilla is a proprietary PHP-based system that is integrated with the TailwindCSS framework. The Vanilla platform hosts brands like Techradar, Marie Claire, PC Gamer, Homes and Gardens, and FourFourTwo.

Key Responsibilities: 

• As a Senior Front-end Developer, you will have input on application and systems architecture.
• You will work with UX teams to provide a good balance between accurate implementation of UI designs and maintaining good technical standards

• In collaboration with Tech Leads and Senior Developers, you will ensure your code is well-scoped, monitored, documented, and testable.
• You will work with the team to review both your code and other developers
• You will be keen to keep up to date with the latest approaches to development and be able to argue for appropriate technology to be added to the stack.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

• Modern CSS (TailwindCSS, SASS, PostCSS) and TypeScript experience 
• The ability to build components from scratch in a modern JS framework (e.g. React/AlpineJS) and a full understanding of the component life cycle
• Experience with a range of automated techniques including: writing unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) tests; utilise appropriate testing frameworks and tools (e.g., Jest, Cypress, WebDriverIO, PHPUnit, or similar).
• Working knowledge of Twig or similar templating libraries.
• Interpret and act on Flame graphs and other dev tools to increase application performance
• An understanding of the importance of consistency and standards in front-end development
• You have experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools and practices
