Senior Software Engineer, Corda

At R3, you will be a Software Engineer with a product mindset, building platforms for today’s world financial system. You’ll be part of our multidisciplinary engineering team, where you will build end to end deployable distributed services, and work closely with engineers at all levels, other Principal Engineers, Product managers, Solutions Architects, and Application Engineers.

You will be building substantial enhancements as well as maintaining our Corda platform, that underpins diverse customer solutions. Corda is a DLT designed for running complex workflows between businesses, without any centralized points of control. You will work on a blockchain/DLT platform trusted by banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges, payments companies, and others – highly demanding industries with the interesting technical challenges that come with them, as we take these customers to the next level of performance, availability and manageability. We aim to have a fast, agile and automated product engineering philosophy that will provide safe and secure experience to our users.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver the product and technical roadmap aligning to customer & stakeholder needs.
• You will design and implement software, written primarily in Kotlin, within the Corda ecosystem and will assist other teams in understanding how to best utilize the software you develop.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers within the team by developing technical plans and contributing to technical architecture
• You will assist other engineers, enabling them to understand your approach to understanding and solving problems.
• You will use developed judgment to make decisions, utilising team Staff and Principle Engineers where needed.
• You will hone your business analysis skills to interact with product management team(s) to marry technical delivery and client requirements.
• You will develop customer focus skills.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering roles, preferably building a SaaS or Platform product.
• Experience collaborating effectively in a cross-disciplinary team setup
• Depth of expertise in high level programming languages (Java/Kotlin/Python etc.) with hands on experience in supporting (3rd level), investigating, diagnosing, debugging and fixing deployed systems.
• Experience in developing Distributed Systems.

Nice to haves:

• Java libraries and ecosystem knowledge and experience
• Experience of message brokers and relational databases
• JVM knowledge (garbage collection, memory profiling)
• Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts & Kubernetes networking.
• Kotlin experience
• PKI and other cryptographic knowledge
• Experience of Linux, shell scripting or other scripting languages, Linux command line tools, TCP/IP networking
• Corda knowledge / experience, or another DLT
