Description

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer, specializing in SQL Server, demonstrates advanced technical knowledge of relational database administration skills and is considered an expert within Tyler Technologies when it comes to supporting client solutions.

As such this position has a significant impact on client satisfaction, retention and revenue growth. The ability to provide exceptional service will shape our client's opinions of our products, services and company. The Sr Infrastructure Engineer, specializing in SQL Server, is responsible for ensuring a positive overall support experience for our clients, providing advanced technical expertise in support of Tyler software products across various complex technologies, such as databases, virtualization concepts, servers, and systems performance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external customers to analyze and resolve complex SQL Server and related feature issues to ensure optimal system performance in on-premise and SaaS environments.
  • Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of SQL Server through development support and client-specific implementations.
  • Formulates guidance and training of policies, procedures and standards relating to database management for both internal and client staff.
  • Consult, plan, and develop recommendations specific to a client's infrastructure including long-range requirements, maintenance guidelines and protection implementation of SQL Server and related features.
  • Monitor and analyze performance of complex system components and make recommendations.
  • Develop system specifications, technical documentation, requirements, KB Articles.
  • Prioritize workload and resolution to meet service level agreements.
  • Work closely with development and conversion teams on issue resolution and process improvement.
  • Work on complex projects either independently or as part of a team.
  • Provides training and mentors junior staff members.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in related field or 5 years equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration (SQL Server 2008 - 2016) best practices and the application of policies and procedures through database administration experience and/or certification, with practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases, instances, and database servers
  • Relational database administration skills (security including adding/delete/modify user accounts, basic networking, SQL, schema creation/manipulation, performance tuning, server hardware, logging, monitoring, policy creation and enforcement, Windows Server 2012 and higher) required
  • Strong Knowledge of SQL high availability features (Failover Clustering, AlwaysOn Availability Groups), admin (verify normal operations, troubleshoot functionality, performance tuning) required.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, server security, server hardware, monitoring database capacity, utilization, replication, backups and disaster recovery; ability to manage SQL Servers in a clustered environment required.
  • Knowledge of flow charting and spreadsheet software; knowledge of office software: i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge in data mapping and of data mapping techniques and concepts required.
  • Strong Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services and development with SQL technologies, admin (security including adding/delete/modify user accounts, schedule and run reports, verify normal operations, troubleshoot report parameters, performance tuning) required.
  • Available for occasional escalations after hours
  • Advanced knowledge of MS servers, virtualization, data storage, networking.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and customer service skills required.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of databases systems, server hardware/software, network infrastructure, Tyler products, problem management tools and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical partners.
  • Be an expert at troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues to determine proper course of action for timely resolution.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and accurately assess and resolve problem situations.
  • Work effectively in a fast paced, team based, customer service-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication skills, teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to be professional, personable, and proactive, having a strong understanding of Tyler products.
  • Identify issue trends and recommend appropriate course of action to address.
  • Multi-task by fielding client inquiries, resolving complex client issues of varying urgency, helping other team members etc.
  • Prioritize issues and demonstrate a sense of urgency.
  • Quickly master new products and technologies and provide effective training and consultation to internal and external clients.
  • Constantly be in a mode to assist clients and other team members.
  • Demonstrate excellent partnering, communicating, and negotiating skills in order to gather client requirements and communicate effectively with the development, conversion and support staff.
  • Previous experience working in a technical/application software support environment.
