Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Automated Shade Installer to join our field team. This role focuses exclusively on the installation, wiring, and commissioning of motorized shading systems, including roller shades, drapery tracks, and specialty solutions from premium manufacturers such as Lutron, Crestron, and Somfy. The installer must also be able to take accurate field measurements for ordering custom shades and perform basic low-voltage wiring and terminations. Precision, professionalism, and coordination with other trades are critical to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Install automated shading systems including brackets, pockets, fascia, and drives according to design specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
• Accurately take field measurements for shade width, drop, mounting depth, and any specialty hardware to support ordering and fabrication.
• Perform basic low-voltage terminations at shade motors and control interfaces, including verifying wire labeling and polarity.
• Interface with electricians and integration teams to ensure proper system communication and compatibility.
• Load and align shades on motors, set travel limits, and verify operation using keypads or configuration tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to motor behavior, mounting, and signal/control integration.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), and elevations.
• Collaborate with general contractors, millworkers, and other trades to resolve conflicts and ensure clean execution.
• Document installation progress, field conditions, and final sign-off.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite at all times.
Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience installing automated or motorized shading systems.
• Proficient in basic low-voltage wiring, including strip, terminate, and identify pre-run cables for shade motors and keypads.
• Familiarity with Lutron (QS, Palladiom, Triathlon), Crestron, or Somfy motorized shading platforms.
• Ability to take precise field measurements for custom shade fabrication and order verification.
• Ability to lift and install large shade rollers and fascia while maintaining alignment and concealment standards.
• Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in active construction or finished environments.
• Strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and follow-through on engineered designs.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Skills:
• Experience commissioning shades using Lutron HomeWorks/QSX or Crestron Toolbox.
• Familiarity with RF repeaters, hybrid control configurations, and wireless shade platforms.
• Experience working in high-end residential or commercial environments with finished interiors.
