Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves managing day-to-day accounting operations, supporting audits, and collaborating across departments to ensure financial transparency. The Staff Accountant reports to the Chief Finance Officer.

Responsibilities
β’ Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Operations
β’ Prepare and post monthly journal entries for approval
β’ Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
β’ Manage petty cash and expense reporting
β’ Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes
β’ Assist with financial audits and prepare necessary documentation
β’ Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies
β’ Maintain confidentiality of financial information
Accounts Payable
β’ Code invoices, expense reports, and check requests accurately
β’ Prepare and schedule vendor payments, resolving discrepancies as needed
β’ Investigate and resolve invoice issues
Accounts Receivable
β’ Collaborate with the Development Department to log and deposit incoming checks
β’ Reconcile receivables and assist with donor-related financial tracking
Administrative & Departmental Support
β’ Prepare mailings as needed for the department
β’ Maintain organized files and records of financial documents
β’ Support meetings between program and administrative staff
β’ Reconcile credit card statements and distribute transportation cards
β’ Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed
β’ Explain financial procedures to staff outside the department
Compliance & Professional Development
β’ Stay current with accounting standards and nonprofit regulations
β’ Participate in educational opportunities to enhance job knowledge
β’ Contribute to special projects and cross-departmental initiatives
Qualifications
Education & Experience
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Accounting or Business with an Accounting focus
β’ Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit
β’ Experience with accounting software (NetSuite preferred)
Skills & Abilities
β’ Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
β’ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
β’ Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
β’ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
β’ Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
β’ Commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practices
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
