Staff Machine Learning Engineer

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer is responsible for leading the technical implementation of bleeding edge AI products. You will be responsible for technical design delivery and maintenance of a new machine learning platform that will support multiple business purposes and application features. To thrive in this role you will execute well in an agile environment where we’ll depend on you to make pragmatic decisions establish and use tight feedback loops and take calculated risks based on your knowledge from collaborating with your peers. You’ve led technical design and mentored data science teams before and are comfortable delivering and receiving feedback with trust and candor. What you’ll be doing:

• Be a hands-on technical leader of data scientists and ML engineers responsible for building and scaling recommendation systems and search features that support millions of daily users

• Design build and maintain robust production-grade ML models and MLOps systems to power personalized experiences across the MyFitnessPal ecosystem

• Lead the development of recommendation models and AI features to enhance user engagement and improve search and product quality

• Partner with product engineering data engineering and data operations teams to ensure best practices for code development DataOps/MLOps testing data quality and quality assurance

• Evaluate and improve existing systems to support scalability robustness and efficiency in delivering ML-driven product features

• Support resolution of production issues with ML model-driven production features

• Mentor coach and support the professional growth of teammates while fostering a collaborative inclusive and trust-based environment

• Collaborate with engineering data science product and leadership teams to identify opportunities and deliver impactful solutions for MyFitnessPal’s users

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Have 7+ years of machine learning experience in a production setting with extensive expertise in recommendation systems search NLP LLMs and deep learning

• Demonstrated experience building and deploying scalable recommendation systems and search features used by millions of users

• Have a proven track record of building and innovating on centralized machine learning platforms to support multiple production models

• Possess deep knowledge of AI architectures ML algorithms and MLOps best practices for production-scale systems

• Strong proficient in programming languages such as Python R and SQL

• Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical content to non-technical audiences

• Bring strategic thinking and the ability to incorporate larger business context into algorithm and product development

• Have experience as a technical lead driving data science teams to deliver measurable product value

• Can quickly assess complex problems and facilitate group discussions to identify solutions and actionable milestones

• Hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science Data Science Statistics Mathematics or a related field (or equivalent extensive real-world experience)

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $170000 - $215000 . Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills qualifications and experience.
