Located on a 12-acre campus in Jeffersonville, PA, The Pathway School provides students with specialized academic needs, social and life skill development, to be successful and independent now and after attending Pathway. Pathway is a nonprofit special education school for students ages 5 to 21 (grades K-12+) from over 50 regional school districts and charter schools. Position Title: STEM Teacher (Woodworking)
Position Schedule:10 Month Position (7 hrs./day - 35 hrs./week)
Function:The primary role of a Pathway STEM Teacher is to implement effective instructional practices and strategies to develop students' science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills.This position concentrates primarily on wood working as a mechanism to understand math and engineering concepts.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in special education with an emphasis Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
- PA Special Education Certification required.
- Training in wood shop is a huge plus.
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience working in an education setting with students who have special learning needs.
- 2+ years of experience working with students who have moderate to severe social and emotional difficulties.
- 2+ years’ experience in the woodworking industry with hands-on experience and knowledge of current tools, technology, and safety.
Skills required:
- Ability to implement a holistic instruction and assessment system based on state academic standards.
- Proficiency in the use of woodshop tools and instructional technology to enhance student learning (engineering).
- Knowledge of lab equipment, manufacturing tools, lab safety, and best practices for hazardous materials
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of Behavioral Management strategies
Compliancy Requirements:
- Must comply with Act 168 and submit a completed Sexual Misconduct Form.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory PA criminal background check, Child Abuse & FBI clearances and pass a drug test, as well as a TB Test.
- Must be able and willing to drive and have a valid PA driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to manage the physical requirements of position which will require work both on campus and off-campus. This position includes extensive walking stairs, climbing, standing, pulling, and lifting. Ability to work with children who are both mentally and physically disabled. This position requires work both indoors and outdoors working in various weather climates.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and administer curriculum consistent with the Pathway School’s goals and objectives.
Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual students’ needs.
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as the Pathway School requires.
Provide input regarding student progress toward IEP goals.
Maintain the highest level of confidentiality on school and students’ information, progress, and records.
Participate in all in-service training. May be asked to assist in the preparation and administration of in-service training.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $58,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
