About this role

We are looking for a passionate and visionary United States Team Lead with expertise in  communications and digital organizing, but most importantly, individual and team management.  The Team Lead is someone who excels at building a vibrant and healthy team culture. The US Team Lead is responsible for stewarding team processes, collaboration and coordination.  They are supporting the North America Director in developing and implementing national strategies and plans as part of the organization’s global strategy to grow and strengthen a powerful climate justice movement. They are the lead staffer in all aspects of communications and digital. This role especially includes building team culture, values and practices that are rooted in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI). 

The US Team Lead reports to the North America Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision & Team Management 

  • Manage and supervise the digital and communications program and department.Facilitate the coordination of the US team planning processes, systems and day-to-day coordination and collaboration
  • Provide supervision, training, coaching, and mentorship to the whole US Team
  • Lead performance reviews for direct reports  
  • Set, track, and evaluate progress towards team and campaign goals 
  • Build team alignment and foster a positive team culture 
  • Ensure effective collaboration across the US team, global and other regional teams
  • Ensure a healthy team culture that is grounded in JEDI principles and 350’s norms and values

Strategy & Leadership

  • Oversee all of 350 US’s communications and digital work
  • Manage and supervise the United States Regions Team
  • Ensure our digital profile is vibrant and that our lists and engagement is growing
  • Guide our communications strategy and implementation
  • Design and facilitate or oversee design and facilitation of US team meetings and retreats 
  • Liaise with others within 350.org and provide expert input into cross-regional, cross-departmental, and global strategies 
  • Manage US team involvement in global processes like fiscal year planning 
  • Represent the US to relevant internal structures by collaborating with regional counterparts and global teams

Project & Program Management

  • Develop and support the implementation of short, medium and long term strategies to grow our US work
  • Work closely with the digital fundraising team to ensure our digital engagement and fundraising thrives
  • Monitor all of our work with key performance indicators

Budgeting 

  • Develop and manage US budget and project budgets, As needed, delegate authority to team members for planning and spending project budgets
  • Contribute to region-wide budget planning 

Competencies:

Communications:  Ability to design and implement effective communication strategies and initiatives both traditionally and digitally for different audiences

Strategy: Understanding of and competency with campaign strategy and narrative strategy, including collaborative approaches to development, implementation, and delivery of strategy

Staff Management: Ability to manage 2-4 direct reports and support their growth and development within the organization

Program Planning and Project Management: Ability to develop, manage and oversee complex, multi-stakeholder campaigns from conception through completion. Ability to manage projects with specific political constraints or implications

Relationship Management: Ability to build, nurture, promote and influence external relationships and to work as an effective member of the team and the organization. Ability to interact with staff and volunteers from diverse cultures and backgrounds with sensitivity and respect

Self-Management: Ability to set professional boundaries. Resilience and ability to manage self and keep composure in times of stress. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Internal Communication: Effectively craft and deliver concise and informative communications. Ability to listen to and address concerns of others, and to transfer and translate information from one level or team of the organization to another

Justice and Equity: Must embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work

Others: Organized, detail oriented and accurate. Ability to assess and understand complex problems and proactively propose solutions. Ability to create work plans and anticipate deadlines. Comfort with juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines. Must believe and embrace 350.org’s vision, mission, and progressive values

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least six (6) years of experience in political organizing and campaigning and designing and implementing (digital) communication strategies 
  • At least three (5) years of experience in people management in diverse and multi-racial  organizations
  • Track record in designing and implementing (digital) communication strategies
  • Track record of designing team and planning processes
  • Strong understanding of climate justice, strategy and social movements
  • A demonstrated application of and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI), anti-racism or anti-oppression work Strong ability to collaborate and work effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Strong ability to think strategically and translate overarching strategies into department goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex data into clear and simple messages for a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to manage complex projects and work across departments
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a fast paced environment 
  • Strong ability to manage and work with remote teams from across the globe
  • Experience with G-Suite


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Digital Fundraising
  • Experience in working in a remote, international organization
  • Experience with unions

 

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Position Type: Full-time

Location: Remote within the following states - CA, CO, GA, MD, MA, ME, MT, NY, NC, PA, VT, VA,WI, NJ, CT, WA, or Washington, D.C. only

Compensation: Salary tier 3.3 and the salary is $105,000 (ask us about our benefits)

Time commitment: Full-time (350.org offers a 36-hour working week)

Work Environment: This role can be based out of an office or remote, depending on location

Travel: The role will require occasional to frequent domestic travel and occasional international travel
