13% salary increase for all general non-management classifications, effective October 1, 2025. Under close supervision, read water meters and record water usage for billing purposes. TASKSReads water meters and records water usage for billing purposes; Assists in the repair, removal, and installation of water meters and related parts and components; Replaces broken and missing meter boxes and lids; Monitors meter performance;Turns water service on or off as instructed;Cleans water meters and assists in the repair of dials; Performs re-reads to verify accuracy of water usage; Responds to or refers customer concerns or complaints to appropriate staff;Must participate in the Emergency Standby Program. QUALIFICATIONSD-1 California Water Board Certification, high school diploma or equivalent, AND one (1) year of experience in reading and maintaining service meters or field customer service work. Must possess at the time of application and maintain a valid California Driverβs License. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICSKnowledge of water meter reading methods and techniques, occupational hazards and safety guidelines and precautions, and quality customer service techniques and concepts;Skilled in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments, following oral and written instructions, and in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;Ability to perform essential duties with little supervision and effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English;Proficient in the use of a personal computer, related software, and electronic equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork is performed in an outdoor environment. Work may require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting 50 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to repetitive motion, extreme temperatures and weather, areas under construction, standing or stagnant water, loose or unstable surfaces, high-pressure water, sewer lines, sewer fumes, gases, and high voltage. THE SELECTION PROCESS Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year.
