JOB SUMMARY RMS Inc. is looking for a Welder to join our Operations Department at our Houston, TX Facility. The Welder will perform and oversee a variety of welding operations on bearing components to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements. PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILTIES • Perform babbitting (lining and relining) of bearings, including tin- and lead-based babbitt alloys. • Prepare bearing shells by cleaning, tinning, and applying bonding agents as required. • Pour, centrifugally cast, or static cast babbitt material into prepared shells. • Machine, bore, and finish babbitted surfaces to precise tolerances using lathes, mills, and other precision equipment. • Inspect bearings for wear, cracks, bonding issues, and other defects. • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders. • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders. • Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.) to verify specifications. • Follow strict safety and environmental protocols when handling molten metals and machinery. • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including material usage and inspection reports. • Assist in troubleshooting, repair, and rebuild of large industrial bearings. • Perform preventive maintenance on shop equipment and keep work area organized. • Knowledgeable in visual inspection of welds and familiar with grinding / upgrade techniques. • Performs pre-work including setup of positioners, thermal blankets, induction heaters, etc. • Tracks usage of consumables including burrs, torch tips, temp sticks, etc. • Expert with manual GTAW welding; familiarity with automatic welding a plus. • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence. • Notifies Quality and Production Leadership in the event of non-conformity and drives for speedy resolution. • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion • Able to inspect and record measurements of component parts to customer, OEM and industry standard specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments, tools and gages. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Previous Experience: • 5 years or more in welding industry, preferably in industrial bearing repair. Knowledge and/or Skill Requirements: The position requires proficiency in the following areas: • Safety-first mindset with self and coworkers. • Familiarity in babbitting, bearing repair, or related precision metalwork. • Familiarity in babbitting, bearing repair, or related precision metalwork. • Excellent organization skills. • Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.) • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required. • Ability to work in an environment of constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities. • Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required. • Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches. • Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment. • Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Basic computer and math skills. REQUIRED EDUCATION • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution. • Post High School degree in welding related field is a plus. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • The position will be based full time in our South Houston, TX 77587 facility. • Able to understand, read, write, and speak English proficiently. • Legal to work in the United States. • Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, physical and background check. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance. • Must be able to use hands for assembly and tool usage. • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel. • While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the shift. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts in a machine-shop environment.
