Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range & Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as an Machine Tool Operator WG-7 in a developmental capacity, receives on-the-job and formal training, performs progressively more difficult assignments and upon management approval, being promoted to Full Performance WG-8. Duties Responsible for general and daily machine cleanup, chip and shavings disposition, and proper disposition of used tooling. Inspects the work produced by using various types of handheld measuring equipment, such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges to check dimensions to specified tolerances. Loads bar stock into bar feeder and makes machine adjustments to accommodate for bar stock changes. Makes minor changes in machine setup, such as changing inserts, tooling, and making offset adjustments to maintain sizes and shapes of the work produced. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Pre-employment physical required as a condition of employment, prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer, prior to reporting for duty. Subsequent annual physicals are required. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machine Tool Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Duties/Tasks include operating conventional or computer machinery to construct mechanical parts and assemblies; and making minor offset adjustments to maintain sizes and shapes of work produced. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Lifting up to 44 pounds is required in lifting and carrying tools and materials. Prolonged standing and some bending, stooping, and reaching are also required. Incumbent is exposed to danger from sharp cutting surfaces of tools and operating parts of high-speed machinery, and regularly faces possible injuries ranging from cuts, bruises, and minor fractures to the loss of fingers, hands, and eyes. Working Conditions: Work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated shops; Exposed to noise of machinery in operation and is subjected to dirt and grease from oily surfaces of tools and parts. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE One Year and One Day. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
