Physical Scientist, AST, Life Support Studies (Direct Hire)

Summary The Human Health and Performance Directorate, Exploration Science Integration Office, at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) is currently seeking a highly skilled individual to serve as the Exploration Exercise System (EES) Functional Lead for the Biomedical Research and Environmental Sciences (BRES) Division. Duties Provide functional integration to ensure the human interface and performance of exercise equipment are designed for sustaining long-term human spaceflight capabilities. Ensure the exercise system functionality and integration with evolving exploration architectures meets NASA-STD-3001 Human Spaceflight Standards. Coordinate cross-directorate requirements, and lead technical resolution of complex issues that directly impact crew safety, health, performance, and mission success. Facilitate long-term strategic planning for crew exercise including development of functional requirements for Mars transit and surface assets. Lead the formulation and continuous refinement of product development strategies for closing critical gaps in knowledge and technology needed to facilitate Artemis and Mars missions. Serve as a cross-lab facilitator and leader/integrator for Artemis and Mars products, solutions, and services by identifying critical product needs based on stakeholder and customer needs. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading product development strategies for closing critical gaps in knowledge and technology needed to facilitate space science missions; Providing technical oversight and management of crew exercise programs in support of space science missions; Evaluate equipment or systems that are directed toward the maintenance of an individual's well-being and optimum performance in spacecraft, planetary habitats or space suit environments. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
