Job Summary:
This position supports and assists the Director of Nursing
Services in operating the Nursing Department of the client, a skilled nursing facility. Assumes
responsibility for clinical outcomes of the facility and oversees nursing practices of the
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants. Manages supervisory
staff responsible for scheduling and assigning duties to nursing personnel. Establishes and manages
facility-wide nursing care indicators, ensuring that the facility complies with the client
guidelines governing the outcome of Veteran/Member care. Incorporates culture change in the form of
Veteran/Member-centered care in the performance of job duties. Occasionally drives on client
business; completes special projects; and performs other job-related duties.
Major
Responsibilities/Essential FunctionsFunctionSupervises and manages the use of scheduled staff
throughout the facility to ensure proper use of resources and adequate coverage - 25%Evaluates the
quality and outcomes of critical nursing functions as they pertain to Veteran/Member care. Takes
necessary actions to train and supervise staff to ensure that all standards of care are met on a
daily basis. - 25%Applies working knowledge of all applicable regulatory requirements to evaluate
comprehensive functions of the Nursing Department and institutes corrective action whenever
deficiencies are identified. - 15%Participates and assumes leadership role as assigned on committees
and task forces which may include Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Pharmacy,
Incidents/Accidents, Admissions and Safety. Participates in the development policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with client and VA regulations and facility policies and procedures. -
10%Participates in Human Resource activities related to interviewing, selection, performance
evaluations, coaching/ counseling and administering disciplinary action as necessary. - 5%Responds
to and takes appropriate action regarding emergent issues that involve allegations of abuse,
neglect/ mistreatment of residents, fire or police involvement, and elopements; and ensures the
Director of Nursing Services and/or Administrator is immediately informed of developing situations.
- 5%Provides assistance on units or with supervision as required; and may act on behalf of the
Director of Nursing Services in their absence. - 5%Incorporates culture change in the form of
Veteran/Member-centered care in the performance of job duties; and completes special projects, as
assigned. - 5%Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5%-10%) Actively

Advanced nursing knowledge related to
clinical management of moderate to complex medical conditions found within a skilled nursing
facilityKnowledge of employee management issues related to the specific demands of a nursing home
environment, including knowledge of scheduling, training. supervision and application of nursing
practicesKnowledge of all relevant regulations as they pertain to the nursing home, including
Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA). Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and

Licenses/Certifications
Active license to practice as a registered nurse in AZThis position
requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license

training.
